A former Aviation Minister has vowed to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the ongoing battle of who becomes the next chairman of the party in Cross River State.

The former minister said that if the PDP leadership ends up taking away the party’s structure in Cross River from Governor Ben Ayade, it would be a big mistake and could lead to an implosion in the party.

Governor Ayade and some PDP chieftains in the state are in a battle over who becomes the chairman of the party in the state.

The governor is supporting Alphonsus Eba also known as Okadigbo to become the next chairman while his opponents in the party are rooting for the former PDP national publicity secretary and former commissioner, Venatius Nkem.

Responding to the development, Fani-Kayode in a tweet on his Twitter handle, @realFFK, warned the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) against supporting any other person rather than the person supported by the governor.

He said if the NWC do otherwise and Ayade leaves the party, the former minister said he would be among those to dump the PDP with the governor.

He wrote:

“It would be a big mistake for the NWC of the @OfficialPDPNig to take the party structures in his state away from Ben Ayaade, Gov. of Cross Rivers state, and hand them over to anyone else. If this is done and Ayaade leaves the party be rest assured that many of us will leave with him.

“You cannot and must not undermine a sitting Governor or attempt to humiliate him in his own state and before his people. Some of those that are advocating and behind this nonsense would never allow it to happen in their own states. A word is enough for the wise.

“No-one, no matter how big or powerful, should think that they own the @OfficialPDPNig. If there is any attempt to undermine Ayade it will spark off a crisis in the party that will split it right down the middle and the consequences will not be limited to Cross Rivers state.”
